Advanced Placement courses are going well. The Advanced Placement Certified School
An effort is being made to conduct some, if not all, AP testing off campus this year. Currently, Dr. Charles Braddock, our testing coordinator, is speaking with various churches and facilities looking for adequate room for all AP students.
The AVID program is being reviewed and reshaped. We will begin anew at the start of the 2008-2009 school year. Students will be selected form the AP Potential software list, and teacher recommendations. Both an AVID and APCS programs presentations will be made at the Wheeler College Night on January 15, 2008.
Wheeler College Night will be January 15, 2008 and will be aimed primarily at ninth, tenth, and eleventh graders. We are expecting 60 to 70 college representatives to be here. I will begin at 6:00 in the auditorium. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet with various colleges and gain valuable information!!!

Staff Development is huge this year. Collaboration is the name of the game. Teachers may earn 1 PLU through collaboration during Early Release days. Also, don't forget TechTalk. Typepad, Video Streaming, and navigationg a Smartboard are examples that technology learning can be fun. New teacher Lunch and Learns take place every six weeks. Teachers new to Wheeler come and enjoy the comraderie and learn the Wheeler way!!!
Many new things are happening at Wheeler in the Advanced Placement Certified School Initiative. First, all ninth graders will take the PSAT. Once their scores are received, Wheeler will use a program named AP Potential to determine those ninth graders who could potentially take AP classes once they have entered the honors track. Secondly, an AP / College Night is scheduled for JANUARY 15, 2008. This night will featur up to 75 different college admissions representatives as well as a presentation on Advanced Placement research as related to college entry and completion. Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshman are encouraged to attend. Seniors are welcome as well! Third, an Advanced Placement Equity team is being formed to increase the awareness of Advanced Placement courses and AP culture.
