Research Internship 2011

The Research Class meets the first 4 weeks everyday before students head out into their internship sites.  The first day of Internship begins January 31st and then we will meet for class each Wednesday until the last day of Internship on May 12th.  Topics of Study will be:

• What is True Research?
• The Research Cycle
• Epidemiology and the YES competition
• Retrieving Peer-Reviewed Articles and Reputable Sources
• Referencing and Citing in APA format
• Scientific Writing
• 6 Tools of Research
• Principles of Valid and Reliable Research
• Types of Research Studies
• A Research Proposal

Community Service Letter

Criteria for Letter 2010-11:

Requirement:  40 Documented Service Hours

· Must be hours earned for specific Wheeler activities or independent projects

· Hours must be documented by a Wheeler Faculty Member

· 2009 Summer hours are included (20 maximum)

· All hours must be received by APRIL 30^th 2011

· Maximum of 25 hours for one type of activity or project

Hours Not Included: Those hours devoted to: monetary or material gain, academic credit in a class, meeting or practice time for club or organization, any other letter using the same hours, and activities related to political issues. Service hours are not earned during school hours or class time

Club Membership

Students may see Mrs. Hawes or me before or after school in rooms 512 or 513.  Membership is $25 and includes a t-shirt and all lunches and refreshments during club programs and activities.

August 26th

Summer Tour '11 Meeting

Sunday,  August 29th  4 pm in the auditorium.  Important Information about the "Good to Great" Tour.  The trip will accomodate 51 participants.  We will be traveling to the Midwest, Great Lakes, Niagra Falls and Canada.  We will be studying the great leaders in history, invention and innovation.  Great museums, lakes, cities, theme parks, waterfalls, sailing, etc... More details at the meeting.  Parents and students are encouraged to be there

The first Lunch and Learn is Thursday, August 26th during Lunch blocks in the Auditorium.  Free Lunch  and comedian and inspirational speaker, Kenn Kington is our guest speaker
